As part of the Single Use Plastic Prohibition Campaign, spot checks were conducted in all the departmental areas last week and punitive action was taken as well as plastic confiscation. A total of 90 thousand rupees as penalty and 28 kg of single use plastic have been seized.


In order to ensure that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area should be free of single-use plastic, the Municipal Corporation is conducting frequent awareness campaigns along with preventive campaigns. But single use bags are widely used in the city. Although single-use plastic prevention campaigns are being implemented in all the departmental areas under the guidance of assistant commissioners and department officers through sanitation officers and sanitation inspectors, the question has arisen as to when the use of single-use bags will be controlled.


In such action, 20 thousand rupees and 7 kg of plastic have been seized by taking action against 4 commercial establishments in Belapur division, while 10 thousand rupees and 4 kg of single use plastic have been seized from 2 commercial establishments in Nerul division.

Action was also taken against 3 commercial establishments in Vashi division and an INR 15,000 fine was recovered and 3 kg of plastic was confiscated. INR 15,000 has been recovered and 8 kg of single-use plastic stock has been seized in action against 3 businessmen in Turbhe Division.


INR 10,000 penalty amount was recovered and 2.5 kg of plastic stock was seized from 2 businessmen in the action in Koparkhairane division. INR 5000 fine and 1 kg of plastic has been seized by taking action against 1 businessman from the solid waste department. Single use plastic bags are still widely used in the city. INR 10,000 penalty amount and 2 kg 300 g plastic stock has been seized from 2 businessmen in Airoli division. 


Apart from this, the Bharari team of Circle 2 seized 900 grams of single use plastic from 1 businessman and recovered INR 5000 as penalty. In this way, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has recovered INR 90,000 as penalty and seized 28 kg 700 grams of single use plastic materials from 18 commercial establishments. On behalf of the Municipal Corporation, this plastic usage prevention action will continue and the citizens are also being appealed to stop using single use plastic completely.
