Residents of old Panvel have been suffering from water shortage for the second year in a row now. The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has requested the cooperation of the administrative body by issuing a public notice regarding water supply every other day from June 25 in the Old Panvel area, as per the reports by Free Press Journal.

The water level of Dehrang Dam, which supplies water to the city, has depleted and the governing body does not have enough water to meet the demand. The situation will improve only after the arrival of monsoon. At present there is only five days of water storage left in the dam. The civic body faced a similar situation in 2017, 2018 and 2022. Even then, the municipality had supplied water every other day.

According to the PMC, there will be one-day intermittent water supply from Wednesday. Earlier, the municipal corporation had implemented water curtailment for one day a week from February. In 2022, the governing body had announced alternate day water supply from May 28. At present, about 30 MLD of water is required per day to supply about 1.5 population in Old Panvel.
