A delegation of the Managing Committee of Taloja Industries Association (TIA) recently met City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) Joint Managing Director 1 Rajesh Patil to discuss various industrial issues including the construction of two metro stations (Station No. 12 and Station No. 13) within Taloja in Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area.

TIA claimed that the new stations could facilitate proper transport connectivity for around 3 lakh employees working in the Taloja MIDC area.

TIA president Satish Shetty emphasised that commercial viability for CIDCO would be reduced if metro stations 1 to 11 were not connected to Taloja MIDC. He explained that immediate construction of planned stations 12 and 13 in Line 3 (Pendhar-Taloja MIDC) and extension of Line 1 would benefit lakhs of commuters in industrial areas. Shetty added that the TIA has demanded construction of an approach road starting from Sector 31 and 32 Taloja CIDCO area (Koyna Velhe) to connect the upcoming metro railway station at Taloja MIDC.

CIDCO has already received CMRS certificate from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for commercial operation of Line 1 of Navi Mumbai Metro from Belapur to Pendhar on June 21. Interestingly, CIDCO took almost 12 years to build the 11 km road for this route. However, despite getting safety certificates for business operations, thousands of citizens living in the Taloja area have to rely on other means of transport which are costly and time-consuming. Currently residents of Taloja and surrounding areas travel in Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) buses which have limited services.
