According to the latest reports, to ensure that water is supplied throughout the year, residents of seven wards under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will not attain water supply once a week, proposed the civic authority.

The NMMC has reportedly made a timetable highlighting when the cuts will be in force. Based on accounts, while the civic body has its own dam in Raigad’s Khalapur, to ensure that the city’s water demand is met, the MIDC is also expected to offer nearly 80 MLD water every day.

This water received from the MIDC is then supplied to the Digha and its adjoining areas. But, in the past few days, residents have voiced their discontent to the NMMC about the low water supply from the MIDC, claimed reports.

Based on narratives, there will be no water supply to Dronagiri, Ulwe, Kharghar nodes and villages on the Hetawane pipeline from 10 am on February 25 to 10 am on February 26.

The MSEDCL and MSETCL are reportedly looking to conduct repair and maintenance work at their Jite substation. Thus, the power supply to the CIDCO’s Hetawane water treatment plant will be cut off.

It has been reported that the CIDCO has appealed to citizens in the above nodes and villages to store adequate water and use it cautiously during this period.

The evening water cut will be undertaken as follows:

  • Monday: Turbhe Ward
  • Tuesday: Airoli Ward
  • Wednesday: Nerul Ward
  • Thursday: Ghansoli Ward
  • Friday: Belapur ward
  • Saturday: Koparkhairane
  • Sunday: Vashi

A senior civic official was quoted in an account by the Free Press Journal highlighting that nearly 60 to 62 MLD water is received from the MIDC but owing to a shortfall, some areas are experiencing low pressure in supply.

Therefore, for the civic body to ensure water supply throughout the year, a weekly water cut will be undertaken. The official added that the water cut would help provide water till September 30.
