The water supply problem that started in Navi Mumbai earlier this month continues in many parts of the city. Apart from low pressure, residents complained of contaminated water supply.

Water supply was shut down on June 2 and 3 by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for repair work on the pipeline and water treatment plant. Following this, NMMC took a second shutdown on June 7 to carry out essential pre-monsoon water supply related works at Morbe dam main pipeline and Bhokarpada water treatment plant.

Citywide supplies could have been restored; However, on June 10, a 2024 mm pipeline of NMMC's Morbe dam project near Adai village burst and the supply was cut off again. The administrative body claimed to have repaired the pipeline within 24 hours and supplied 472 million litres per day (MLD) of water to the entire city.

Apart from NMMC, areas under the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) have a similar problem. A 24-hour shutdown was undertaken by Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MSETC) on 22KV CIDCO and 22 KV MSETCL on Hamrapur feeder main line. Apart from this, on Thursday, the repair work of Hetwane dam pipeline at the water treatment plant in Jite was carried out. Dronagiri, Ulve, Kharghar and Taloja Phase 2 nodes did not receive water supply on June 9.

Navi Mumbai Shiv Sena chief Vijay Chowgule (Shinde) met Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar on Tuesday and discussed the issue in detail. He demanded that the water supply of the entire city including the slums should be fixed immediately. Chowgule was accompanied by former corporators who demanded that the Solanpada Dam be transferred from the Central Railway and used to supply water to local villages.
