The number of positive cases of the coronavirus has witnessed a sharp rise in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

As per reports, there has been a 50 per cent rise in the number of positive cases of the coronavirus with 11,000 fresh cases of coronavirus in Mumbai. However, the mortality rate has come down during this period.

According to data shared by the NMMC, on August 20, the total number of positive cases in Navi Mumbai was 22,275 which peaked to 33,146 cases by September 20. This happens to be a 50 per cent rise. Moreover, 350-400 positive cases of COVID-19 can be witnessed every day.

On the other hand, during this period, 172 people succumbed to the disease. On August 20, the mortality rate was 2.35 per cent which came down to 2.1 per cent. However, a total of 698 patients have lost their lives due to the coronavirus since the outbreak's inception.

This sudden rise in the number of COVID-19 positive cases can be attributed to the easing of lockdown restrictions along with the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations which were observed in the state recently.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra clocked 15,738 cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 12,24,380. The positivity rate, recovery rate, and fatality rate for the coronavirus in Maharashtra stand at 20.71 per cent, 74.84 per cent, and 2.7 per cent respectively.
