Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Saleem Sarang recently received the prestigious ‘Mumbai Ratna’ award for his social and philanthropic works.

He is among 31 individuals from different fields awarded in recognition of their works.

The award was given by the Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

On receiving the award, the NCP leader said that it feels good to be recognized and appreciated for social and welfare works. The award will only encourage him to expand his social and philanthropic works. If the award recognizes the humble efforts, it also puts greater responsibilities to do more toward helping out the needy.

According to reports, when the pandemic struck and the poor were hard hit due to the lockdown in both phases of coronavirus, Sarang was in the forefront trying to ease the peoples’ problems. He reached out to over 10,000 families with food packets and ration kits. Many times, the politician himself distributed food packets personally.

Meanwhile, it has been observed that netas spend lakhs of rupees on hoardings, cake cutting etc. Sarang, on the other hand, distributed ration among around 300 needy families on the occasion of NCP leader and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar’s birthday on July 22.

“Putting up hoardings and banners is also a way to express good wishes to leaders on their birthday. But I decided to help the poor and the needy by distributing ration among them as part of birthday celebrations of our leader Ajit (Dada) Pawar. The blessings from the beneficiaries will go a long way in keeping the leader and me in good health,” Sarang was quoted as saying by TOI.
