The official added that no unbecoming incidents were reported on Thursday which is the seventh day of immersions of the idols.
On Thursday, 15,295 idols were immersed, out of which 6,818 were immersed in artificial ponds that were made in the island city to ensure that crowding doesn’t occur at the natural water bodies, mentioned the official.
Almost 1,356 public Ganpatis, 13,726 domestic idols and 213 idols of the Goddess Gauri were immersed, mentioned the report.
The official further went on to elucidate that from the idols immersed in the artificial ponds, 6,092 were from domestic households, 671 were public Ganpatis and 55 were Goddess Gauri idols.
On the fifth and second day of the festivities, more than 66,000 and 41,000 idols respectively, were immersed across water bodies through the city.
The Ganesh Chaturthi festivities that last for 10 days, encapsulates millions of people who celebrate the occasion. This year, like the last, it is being celebrated in a relatively less exorbitant manner owing to the many restrictions in place for the coronavirus pandemic.
