On Tuesday, October 12, Nitin Raut, Maharashtra Energy Minister, had counselled the Maharashtra residents to use electricity sparingly. He also said that there would be no load shedding due to a shortage of coal.

While addressing the same, he urged the state residents to use electricity cautiously since Maharashtra is currently facing a shortage of 3,000 MW per day. He further said to use electricity sparingly during peak hours of 6-10 in the morning and evening.

For the past two months, the state government is in touch with Pralad Joshi, Union Coal Minister, and Union Power Minister R K Singh, Raut added.

Currently, in Maharashtra, the units generate  13,186 MW per day. The state also purchases power from private companies. Due to lack of coal, four units that belong to the state government are closed, while three are closed due to maintenance issues.

Nitin Raut, while blaming Coal India for the present crisis, said that due to Coal India's inefficiency, there is a shortage of coal. The coal that is given to us is also of not good quality, he added.

Just a few days ago, it was reported that the state is likely to go for coal shedding due to a dearth of coal supply.
