The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been raising awareness about the compliance of restrictions to curb the rising incidence of coronavirus since last year. However, many citizens are still found to be violating the COVID-19 protocols.

As many as 65,937 people and establishments were fined for violating COVID-19 norms in the limits of the NMMC and a fine of INR 3.02 crores has been collected from them, an official said on Monday, July 5.

Talking to reports, NMMC PRO Mahendra Konde said that 4,312 people and establishments were fined over INR 21 lakhs by vigilance squads between June 5 to July 4.

In addition, special attention is being paid to the immunization of potentially at-risk individuals while providing various services. Similarly, workers in the core area, red light areas, homeless destitute and other neglected elements of the society are also being vaccinated.

The number of vaccination centres has also been increased keeping in view the need for a maximum number of vaccinations as per the availability of vaccines.

Besides, more than 5.70 lakh people have been vaccinated in the NMMC limits since the drive was rolled out, added Konde.

The impact of the second wave of coronavirus seems to have stabilised since last week, with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation keeping the number of daily tests at more than 6,000. Moreover, preparations are also in full swing to deal with the possibility of the third wave.
