The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has welcomed bids for the construction of the city’s first civic super-specialty hospital at an 8.50-acre plot in sector 15A of Belapur. The hospital will also include a medical college. The entire project is estimated to cost INR 850 crore. Of this, the first phase alone will require INR 250 crore.
In the first phase, the hospital building will be made. The facility will offer super-specialty services such as urology, neurology, nephrology, and cardiothoracic care. The planned facility will be a seven-story structure. The ground floor will provide parking for approximately 400 cars.
The hospital will feature an academic wing for nursing and postgraduate students. Additional facilities will include an engineering yard, accommodations for patients' families, and a designated area for visitors.
Many proposal-affected persons (PAPs) had opposed the project. They argued that the site was originally intended for cricket activities. The allocated land, known as plot number 4, was given to NMMC by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) in 2022. It became possible due to the efforts of Manda Mhatre, the Belapur BJP MLA, who repeatedly requested the land for the hospital.
As per reports, Mhatre also persuaded CIDCO to lower the price of the land from INR 107 crore to INR 60 crore. Once the hospital is operational, residents will no longer need to travel to Mumbai or other locations.
