In view of the pandemic, all the agricultural market committees in the Nashik district were ordered to be closed for 10 days. Therefore, the work of the market committee is reported to be closed from May 12 to May 21. However, this has not affected the supply of vegetables in Mumbai and suburbs, the committee informed.

Orders have been issued to close all Agricultural Produce Market Committees in the Nashik district from May 12 to May 21, 2021. In paragraph 3 of this order, it has also been clarified that for the benefit of vegetable growers in the Nashik district, the Agricultural Produce Market Committees should decentralize the supply of vegetables at different levels so that the supply of vegetables and fruits remains smooth.

The same order does not impose any restrictions on inter-city and inter-district transport of fruits and vegetables. Since vegetables are completely deregulated, vegetable growers no longer need to bring their produce to the market committee's yard.

The Nashik Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), which is the largest wholesale vegetable market in the city provides around 70 per cent of the vegetables auctioned to Mumbai and suburbs. According to Nashik APMC official, over 500-550 tonne of vegetables worth INR 3-4 crores are sold daily at the wholesale market in Nashik city, of which, around 400 tonnes of vegetables are usually ferried to Mumbai using more than 100 pick-ups every day.
