As the workers of state power companies such as MSEDCL, MahaGenco and MahaTransco went on strike, the citizens of Thane city faced a power cut for more than 12 hours on Tuesday, March 29.

In a conversation to Mumbai Live, a resident of Thane, shared: “There was no power since 1 am on Tuesday. On contacting the electricity department, they said that owing to strike there is no manpower available to fix power failure issue in the area. I have called them several times since 6 am. We have patients at home who need machines supply and electricity in this heat.”

Additionally, the complaint was taken to Twitter; however, the twitteratis did not receive any clearly defined response from the power company.

Later, it came to light that the power supply was restored by 3 pm on the same day.

Owing to this agitation, on Monday, March 28, Maharashtra Energy Minister, Nitin Raut stated that he cancelled his meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 29 with unions representing employees of government-operated power companies since the strike continued in spite of his request to call the strike off, reports stated.

As per the report, the officials had anticipated that the agitation will affect the generation, transmission and distribution of power to nearly three crore consumers across the state.

For those unversed, the Maharashtra government has invoked the Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act (MESMA) to hinder the state-run power company's employees from partaking in the two-day nationwide strike called by trade unions
