Byculla ROB will soon Install Height Barriers to Restrict the entry of Heavy Vehicles

The decision was taken by BMC after taking IIT-Bombay's audit report into consideration.

Byculla bridge experiences many heavy vehicles from Kalbadevi and Crawford market. In a recent report by IIT-Bombay which revealed that bridges on Central Railway in Byculla, Chinchpokli, Currey Road and Ghatkopar are unsafe, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken the decision to install height barriers and restrict the entry of heavy and bulky vehicles.

However, the alternatives for traffic diversion is yet to be ascertained. The height barriers will be installed on the Byculla Road Over Bridge (ROB) which connects Dr. Ambedkar Road to JJ Flyover. After the Gokhale bridge incident in Andheri on July 3, 2018, a team from IIT-Bombay had inspected 299 bridges and submitted their report to the BMC. Notably, BMC has also erected height barriers to prevent the entry of heavy vehicles over Mithi river bridge on Aarey Road in Bhandup
