Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal held a review meeting with BMC officials on Saturday, April 19. He said hawkers are being removed from outside Borivali station. He added that similar action will be taken near Malad, Kandivali, and Dahisar stations. Hawking will not be allowed within 150 metres of these stations.
As per reports, Goyal said that he spoke to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The railway minister has agreed to redevelop the Borivali, Malad, Kandivali, and Dahisar stations. These works will be done under the Amrit Bharat scheme. Planning for the project has already started.
Goyal also discussed the micro train project at Sanjay Gandhi National Park. He said that the train work had restarted a year ago. He informed that the train will start running in two months.
The minister raised concerns about the Versova-Bhayandar Coastal Road. He said there is a lack of coordination between the railways and the civic body in building bridges. He also spoke about illegal dumping on mangrove land in Malwani and Gorai.
Goyal asked officials to act against the dumping. He said land mafias are using trucks to dump waste in these areas. He asked the police and BMC to stop encroachments.
He also asked the authorities to solve the problems of around 350 people affected by the Borivali-Thane tunnel project. He directed the administration to give these people houses under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority.
Goyal suggested setting up two new police stations. These will be in Aksa and Ambujwadi. He also asked for more police staff to be posted in the area.
Goyal also ordered an immediate check of all crematoriums in north Mumbai. He said repairs and upgrades will be done. Electric furnaces will be installed to reduce pollution.
