On Monday, December 20, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar while talking to the media mentioned that there is no plan in the pipeline to put restrictions on the Christmas and New Year's parties, reported news agency ANI. Pednekar added that SOPs have already been issued for the year-end festivities.

Moreover, she appealed to all the citizens to adhere to the SOPs proclaimed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Police.

Moreover, in a press release issued on Sunday, December 19, by the civic authority chief Iqbal Singh Chahal, citizens were asked to avoid any sort of crowding, wear face masks, adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines and get fully vaccinated. He also urged citizens to avoid parties, gathering amid the approaching festivities, reports stated.

Chahal had further cautioned that those violating the rules will be dealt with severely by the civic body’s ward level teams and the Mumbai Police administration.

Moreover, news agency ANI had reported last week that section 144 CrPC was imposed in Mumbai up to midnight on New Year's eve in light of the increase in Omicron cases in the city. Apart from this, several other COVID-19 restrictions were put in place to curb the spread of the variant.
