The above orders will come into force in areas under the control of the Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai from Thursday, December 16 and will remain in force till December 31.
Moreover, news agency ANI reported that section 144 CrPC has been imposed in Mumbai up to midnight on New Year's eve in light of the increase in Omicron cases in the city.

Anyone contravening this order will be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. In addition to the penal provision under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and National Disaster Management Act 2005, as well as other legal provisions as applicable.
