The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday, June 30, announced that COVID-19 inoculation drive in Mumbai will remain suspended today, July 1, at the centres run by the civic body and the Maharashtra government.

According to the civic body, the reason to suspend the vaccination drive is due to the unavailability of a sufficient number of vaccines.

“Dear Mumbaikars, Please note that all BMC and Government vaccination centres will be closed on July 1, 2021. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please watch this space for updates regarding vaccination centres and schedules," BMC said in a tweet.

Moreover, the civic body issued a statement mentioning that the citizens of Mumbai will be informed about the extent to which the stock of vaccines will be available. The vaccination drive will resume once it receives a fresh stock of vaccines.

The BMC appealed to the people of Mumbai to cooperate with the administration. Notably, this is not the first time the city or Maharashtra has halted vaccinations at public centres due to shortage of jabs.

According to the BMC, so far 54,35,731 citizens have been inoculated in the metropolis. Of these, 10,72,578 beneficiaries have received the second dose as well.

Earlier, on Monday, June 28, a total 1,80,821 people received the jab in Mumbai, which is the highest single day inoculation so far.
