The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has assured that there is sufficient water available in the reservoirs and there will be no water cuts imposed in the city.

This development came days after reports stated that the water storage in the lakes supplying water to Mumbai has reached its lowest level in the last three years.

As of March 26, the lakes have a total of 4.62 lakh million litres (ML) of water stock, while in 2023 it was 5.57 lakhs ML and 6.01 lakh ML in 2022.

In an official statement on Tuesday, March 26, the BMC noted: “Due to low rainfall between June and September 2023, relatively less water is available in reservoirs, but the water supply to the city won't get affected.”

The state government has also made additional water available for mumbai from the reserve quota.

A high-level meeting was held at the civic headquarters on Tuesday to review the water supply situation of the metropolis.

The municipal administration is keeping a close eye on the available water storage in the dam, the BMC said and appealed to citizens to use water sparingly and judiciously.

If reports are to be believed, the water level in the seven dams that supply water to Mumbai has come down to 32.32 per cent and this water will be sufficient only for one and a half to two months. If there is not enough rain in June, the civic body will face a tough challenge to provide water till July, resulting in water cuts.

For the unversed, Mumbai gets its daily water supply from seven different lakes - Tansa, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Tulsi, Vihar, Upper Vaitarna, and Middle Vaitarna.
