The Omicron wave of COVID-19 has not only contributed to highly daily coronavirus infection numbers but has also registered the highest number of home quarantine patients in Mumbai at 7.2 lakh, reports stated. According to accounts, the number of home quarantine patients during the wave driven by the Delta variant, in April 2021 was 6.2 lakh.
Based on a report by the Times of India, while the number of patients in home isolation was nearly 30,000 when the Omicron cases began rising in December 2021, the numbers have surged almost 25 times in the past three weeks.
In accordance with the account, civic experts attribute the rise in the number of home quarantine patients to the highly transmissible variant of COVID-19, Omicron. Apart from this, the civic public health department officials also comment that the number of individuals in home quarantine along with the number of sealed buildings and containment zones could alter considerably owing to the updated guidelines issued by the Centre on Monday, January 10.
On the other hand, data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also brought to light that in the past 11 months, since the vaccination drive commenced, of the 4,575 COVID-19 deaths which are 6 per cent or 255 were amongst those that had attained at least one dose of the vaccine against the novel virus.
