Farmers, women and youth are the pillars of nation building and the state government is committed to their welfare. Therefore, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured in the meeting of Niti Aayog on Saturday that about one and a half lakh government jobs will be provided in the state by the end of December. Shinde also demanded in the meeting that the Centre should provide financial assistance to divert the wasted water in Konkan to the drought-stricken areas of Marathwada.


The eighth meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog was held in Delhi under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Presenting the role of the state in this meeting, Shinde presented to Modi an account of the important decisions taken by the government and the schemes implemented in the last few months. After that, while talking to the media, Shinde said that he had requested Modi to provide substantial help for the Marathwada water grid. In this meeting, Chief Ministers of 19 states raised the issues of their states. In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion on health, women empowerment, employment, infrastructure, investment etc. Issues of interest of the state were raised in the meeting. Shinde expressed his belief that the Prime Minister will definitely consider it.

For the farmers of the state, “Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana” has been launched to provide an additional INR 1 crore 1.5 lakh farmers will benefit from this and in the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Yojana farmers have been given insurance protection for just one rupee. Also, Shinde informed in the meeting that Chief Minister Solar Agriculture Vahini Yojana 2.0 has been started to provide electricity to farmers during the day and 15 lakh farmers will benefit from this in the next three years. Emphasis has been laid on strengthening the infrastructure in the state. During the Maha Vikas Aghdi government, the works of Metro Carshed and Bullet Train in Mumbai were suspended. But the government has lifted the moratorium and removed the hurdles in the work of all the infrastructure projects.


Approval of 28 irrigation projects in 10 months
In the last 10 months, 28 irrigation projects have been given revised administrative approval and six lakh hectares of area will come under irrigation. To reduce water scarcity in Marathwada-Vidarbha, the government has taken up interlinking projects to divert water from Godavari basin (Wainganga) to Tapi basin (Nalganga) and from Konkan to Godavari and Tapi basins. Also, 'Water Grid' project has been started to overcome the problem of irrigation and drinking water in Marathwada. In the meeting, Shinde demanded that the Centre should help with this.

Women Empowerment
The government has taken concrete steps for the empowerment of women in the state. Through the 'Lek Ladki' scheme, it has been decided to provide cash subsidies in phases after the birth of a girl child in economically backward families and till she completes 18 years of age. Also, Shinde informed in the meeting that women have been given a 50 percent discount in ticket price in State Transport Corporation buses and one percent discount in stamp duty for property owned by women.


Recruitment through job fairs
He said that to reduce the unemployment in the state, more than one and a half lakh government jobs will be recruited by December and for this, employment fairs are being organised regularly.
