Despite rains till October, the water storage in the dams that supply water to Mumbai this year has decreased compared to last year. Currently, 37 percent of water is left in all the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai. Although there is no possibility of water cut at present, the planning of water supply will be based on how much rain falls in June and July. If the arrival of rains is delayed, then there will be a possibility of water cut in Mumbai. The summer fever is gradually increasing.

As the month of April approaches, Mumbaikars also face the worry of water shortage. Last year the rains were good and the dams supplying water to Mumbai were full to the brim. At the end of October, the dams had 97 percent water storage. It seemed that the worry of water for a year was solved. However, the water storage in the dams has reached 37 percent when the month of April has not even started yet. Mumbaikars are going to rely on this water supply for four months, two months of summer and two months until sufficient rains start.

At the same time last year, 40 percent water reserves were left. 3800 million litres of water is supplied to Mumbai every day from seven dams namely Udhrav Vaitrana, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Madhya Vaitrana, Bhatsa, Vihar, Tulsi. After the water storage in all the seven lakes reached 14 lakh 47 thousand 363 million litres, it was possible to supply water to Mumbaikars at full capacity. Also, the Water Engineer Department of the Municipality plans to ensure that the available water reserves in the lakes will be sufficient till 31st July. If all the ponds are filled to capacity on October 1, the water supply will remain smooth throughout the year. If the ponds are not filled to their full capacity, there will be a water cut in Mumbai. Although there is no possibility of water shortage this year, the future of Mumbai's water supply will depend on how much rain falls in June and July.
