As the number of coronavirus cases across Mumbai is on a decline, the number of containment zones across the city has also decreased.

According to sources, due to the increase in cases in the slum areas, the containment zones had witnessed an increase, however, the spread of COVID-19 in these areas have now been curtailed. Currently, there are 41 restricted areas in Mumbai. Within these 41 areas, there are 55,000 houses where 2,53,000 citizens reside.

Moreover, the highest number of restricted areas is in Kandivali where there are 12 zones. Earlier, with the surge in coronavirus cases, the number of restricted areas had reached 2,800. Currently, there are 12 restricted areas in the Kandivali R South Division of the municipality. Andheri K East Division has 8, E Division Byculla 5, Bhandup S Division 4 and Chembur M West Division 3.

A few months back, Mumbai saw an exponential increase in the instances of COVID-19 cases. Observing this surge across districts in Maharashtra, the state government took strict decisions and imposed lockdown-like restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus. However, over the last few weeks, the administration has noticed that the cases have dropped and the spread has been contained. This comes across as a piece of good news for the citizens who have been concerned about the infection for a while now.
