While INR 12 thousand crores are required for the census, only 574 crore 80 lakh rupees have been allocated in this year's Union Budget.

The 10-year census was expected in 2021. But it was postponed due to the Corona epidemic. After that, the census is still not timed. It was expected that the census would be conducted after the Lok Sabha elections held last year. However, it is still clear that the government is not in the mindset of conducting a census. An expenditure of around 12 thousand crore rupees is expected to implement the process of census across the country.

The budget presented two days ago has allocated only INR 575 crore for the 2025-26 census. The delay in conducting the census has also impacted the expansion of various government schemes. Constituency reorganisation is scheduled for 2026, which includes increasing the number of Lok Sabha and state assembly seats. However, if the census is further delayed, the reorganisation process may also be postponed. Several political parties, including Congress, have demanded a caste-based census. While the BJP previously opposed it, the party is now adopting a more cautious approach on the matter.
