Opposition Parties Protest Over Divyansh Incident

The opposition parties like Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) protested against the negligence of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

A week after 2-year old Divyansh fell into an open manhole in Ambedkar Chowk in Goregaon, the opposition party including the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) protested against the negligence of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

However, Divyansh's father also blamed BMC's negligence and demanded that Mumbai's Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar should resign. Vishwanath Mahadeshwar had reached the spot and stated that a probe will be conducted and serious actions will be taken against the BMC worker who will be found guilty.  

After tremendous pressure, Mumbai Police filed a complaint against BMC under Section 304 (A) of death by negligence. As stated by the BMC, they have submitted a CCTV footage to Mumbai Police which shows that some ragpickers had stolen the cover of the open drain.  A team of 50 BMC workers along with NDRF and Fire Brigade were deployed to search the drain by opening the manholes.
