On the eve of Republic Day, citizens gathered in large numbers at Shivaji Park in Dadar. To avoid any accident or other incidents, Mumbai Police has issued orders against gathering under Section 144. Gatherings and processions of five or more people have been banned in the city till February 6. Meanwhile, thousands of Maratha activists, including Manoj Jarange, have announced massive protests in Mumbai from January 26 and are headed towards Mumbai.

Jarange has demanded that the Maratha community should be given Kunbi caste certificate. Therefore, the agitation by the Maratha community in crowded Mumbai may disturb peace and there is a possibility of damage to property. Therefore, the police have ordered a ban on taking out protest marches. The Police Commissioner said that this order has come into effect from Wednesday, January 24 and will remain in force for the next 15 days.
