Ganeshotsav 2022: Over 48,000 idols immersed in Mumbai on 6th day

For those unversed, on the sixth day of the festivities on Monday, devotees immersed the idols of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Gauri in the sea at various beaches, ponds and artificial lakes made for the purpose.

As Mumbaikars celebrate the Ganeshotsav with pomp and fervour after two years, it has come to light that more than 48,000 idols of Lord Ganesh were immersed in Mumbai's sea, ponds and artificial lakes on the sixth day, Monday, September 5, of the festival.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data revealed that till early Tuesday morning, September 6, 48,029 idols were immersed, including 41,340 household idols, 429 sarvajanik (public) idols and 6,260 idols of Goddess Gauri.  A maximum of 15,265 household idols were immersed in artificial lakes.

However, fortunately, no untoward incident was reported, officials added.

Meanwhile, on the fifth day of immersion on Sunday, September 4, 31,365 Ganesh idols were immersed in the sea and artificial lakes in Mumbai.

For those unversed, on the sixth day of the festivities on Monday, devotees immersed the idols of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Gauri in the sea at various beaches, ponds and artificial lakes made for the purpose.

The 10-day Ganesh festival, which commenced on August 31 ended on September 9.

Besides, this year, Paytm has been given the exclusive rights for Bappa’s prasad orders for Mumbai’s oldest and most popular Lalbaugcha Raja Utsav, that has also returned after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
