Last year in Panvel municipality area, 11 people were electrocuted in an accident at Visarjan Ghat in Vadghar. Learning from the unfortunate incident, this year the Panvel Municipal Administration has made a special plan for the maintenance and repair of 20 different artificial lakes and the main four immersion ghats where most Ganesha idols are immersed in each ward committee and also for the electricity system pavilion. The municipality has earmarked more than INR 93 lakh for artificial ponds and other planning.

Officials of private households and public Ganesh Utsav Mandals insist on immersing Ganesha idols in the city's river basin. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Ganesh Deshmukh has appealed to as many citizens as possible to immerse the idols in artificial ponds for this year's Ganpati festival to protect the environment. 


The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) is spending INR 4 lakhs for each artificial pond so that citizens can get an alternative to artificial ponds at immersion ghats. The municipality will provide 20 such lakes in the municipal area.
