A portion of Jayprakash building located in Prabhadevi collapsed on Thursday, August 6, 2020. The incident was reported at 12:30 PM on Thursday - a day after the city witnessed heavy rainfall with strong winds. The statement released by the Mumbai Fire Brigade states that no casualties were reported yet.

The portion of the building fell from the balcony onto a hutment. The video was shared on a Twitter handle showing the damaged building

Over the last few days, Mumbai has been witnessing heavy rainfall. Mumbai rains have broken many rainfall records, and during the last 24 hours, Colaba recorded 332 mm rain which is the second-highest 24-hours rainfall ever. All-time 24-hours rainfall record is 346.2 mm recorded on August 23 in 1997. Many other areas of Mumbai also witnessed more than 200 mm rain daily, during the last two days. Wind speed in many areas reached around 100 Kmph, leading to widespread structural damage and uprooting of trees.

Skymet report states that there will be a significant decrease in rain activities over Mumbai and suburbs as well as over Gujarat. Weather will not go completely dry, there may be on and off rain and thundershower activities over Mumbai and suburbs in the coming days.

Rain activities to increase once again over Mumbai and suburbs around August 11. During that time rains will not be very heavy over Mumbai and suburbs.
