MMRC vs Save Trees Association: The battle continues

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) continues to be involved in controversy and stir up the news mill. Ignoring Supreme Court’s verdict, they are acting on their own terms, according to Kunal Birwadkar from Worli who has knocked on the doors of the High Court on Wednesday. Both the Supreme Court and High Court had given a go-ahead to cut the trees down but due to this issue, the case is back in the courts.Mr Kunal Birwadkar spoke to Mumbai Live and has informed us that the final verdict is going to be announced by the High Court on May 26, Friday.

Cuffe Parade, Oval Maidan, Churchgate, Worli, Siddhivinayak are few areas in which MMRC has started to bring the trees down. Birwadkar’s protest is against MMRC as they have gone against Supreme Court’s verdict and have started cutting trees before a committee was set up by the High Court.

Trees which were to be replanted in Worli have been chopped off and MMRC are being defiant according to Birwadkar. All eyes will be on Friday’s verdict as this conflict between ‘Save Trees’ association and MMRC heats up.
Tasneem Shaikh, from the association claims that no trees have been cut during the nights after MMRC’s late night events were brought to light yesterday.
