In the view of the increasing instance of earthquakes in Palghar district, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court. The PIL was filed by a 21-year-old engineering student Taha Nizam.

The petition demands to temporarily halt the work being conducted by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS). Since November 2018, there have been nearly 42 earthquakes in Palghar area. 

In the PIL, it has been informed that the nuclear facilities located near Palghar district pose a huge risk due to the repeated instance of earthquakes in the district.

The petition states that the government should review its security policy in the area. It also seeks the government to make its plan for disaster management more effective.
