To address growing traffic congestion in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has taken up the Pod Taxi project and now plans to build a skywalk connecting Kurla Railway Station to the pod taxi stand.

This skywalk will ease commuter movement from Kurla to BKC and further to Bandra East station, enhancing last-mile connectivity.

BKC, fast emerging as an international financial hub, is facing severe traffic congestion due to the increasing number of vehicles entering the area. In response, the MMRDA has initiated several traffic-reduction measures, one of which is the 8.8 km pod taxi corridor from Kurla station to Bandra East station.

The project, costing INR 1,016.38 crore, will be executed on a public-private partnership model. The contract has been awarded to M/s Sai Green Mobility Pvt. Ltd. and M/s Ultra PRT, who will handle both construction and operations. The pod taxis will run for a period of 30 years, with a fare of INR 21 per km.

To support this, MMRDA is now preparing a detailed proposal for a skywalk from Kurla station to the pod taxi terminal, a distance of about 200 meters. The Railways has allocated 1,370 sq. meters of space for this skywalk. Details such as length, structure, and cost are currently being finalised and will be placed for approval at the authority’s upcoming meeting.
