Mumbai Police Issues Preventive Order for Landlords Renting Property - Check Guidelines Here

Mumbai Police has issued a preventive order for property owners who want to rent out their property in the city.

The reason behind the order is the likelihood of anti-social and subversive elements seeking refuge in residential areas due to the current conditions prevailing in the city. The police believe that such elements may cause disturbance of public tranquillity, danger to human life, and damage to private and public property.

To avoid subversive actions, riots, and affray caused by terrorist anti-social elements posing as renters, prompt action is required, according to Vishal Thakur, DCP, Operations, Mumbai Police.

Thakur has directed that the order aims to impose some control over landlords and tenants, and it is a precautionary order that Mumbai Police regularly issues. The order will remain effective from March 8, 2023, to May 6, 2023, and violators will be punished under section 188 of the Indian Criminal Code (ICC).

To comply with the order, landlords must post their tenant's information online on the citizen portal at www.mumbaipolice.gov.in. The order also requires landlords to provide the passport and visa information of their foreign national tenants. The same procedure can also be followed by going to the neighbourhood police station under Mumbai Police control.
