Ahead of the 201st commemoration of Bhima Koregaon battle on January 1, the police are vigilant on social media in order to maintain the social harmony in Maharashtra. The police are looking to monitor any posts which mislead the people and spread hate. 

On January 1, Dalit organisations have organised an event to celebrate the commemoration of Bhima Koregaon battle. Every year, people participate in the anniversary. However, last year, the celebration took a violent turn and spread chaos across the state. Pune Police claims that in order to avoid such chaos they are monitoring social media. The police have kept 25 people in the watchlist.

Along with the social media surveillance, the police have sought help from Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Secret Bureaus, Anti-Naxal Cell to monitor Naxalite areas in the state and their plans or meeting ahead of January 1.
