During a department heads' review meeting, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar directed the production of a site-wise progress report prior to Diwali. All department heads, Vijay Kumar Mhasal, and Additional Commissioner Sujata Dhole were present during the meeting.

In-depth briefings were sought on each municipal department's ongoing initiatives, and Commissioner Narvekar issued instructions to speed up work during the review. To tackle the persistent problem of market space distribution, the commissioner directed a section-by-section evaluation of the market, stressing the necessity of evicting unregistered street sellers and assigning spots to authorised merchants. At the same time, he called for the quick completion of the ongoing market building.

‘Timely Completion Of Ongoing Projects’

The commissioner also emphasised the significance of acting quickly and within a set deadline in order to use buildings owned by municipal corporations for a variety of uses. He issued a warning that if any negligence in carrying out this command was found, culpability would be proven.

The commissioner oversaw the prompt completion of required duties and the repair of toys in parks ahead of the official beginning of the Diwali school vacation on November 10. As directed by the commissioner, the Wonders Park project must also be completed and the toy trains in the city's five gardens put into service for the amusement of kids. In addition, extra care should be taken to guarantee that Wonders Park opens for business as usual from October 15 following the monsoon.

Apart from this, another alarming issue is the deteriorating Air Quality Index (AQI). There is serious concern over the declining Air Quality Index, which is made worse by carbon monoxide emissions from automobiles and industries. It negatively affects the general public's health.

Information gathered from websites such as www.aqi.in shows that the Air Quality Index has continuously surpassed the WHO limit of 50, with some regions experiencing levels as high as 400.

Two Vashi redevelopment projects have received penalty notices from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) for their involvement in increasing airborne dust pollution.

In order to penalise builders for their "breach" of dust mitigation measures, NMMC has sent notices to builders. Shirish Aradwad, the NMMC's additional city engineer for the environment, issued these notices.

Arihant-Advika, which is presently remodeling JN-style buildings with multi-story structures in Sector-9, Vashi, was fined INR 1,11,220 by the municipal body. Furthermore, Mistri Instruments was fined INR 51,150 for infractions at its Sector-2, Vashi location. They received a fine of 10 for each square meter of construction.

The notices made clear that the builders had broken five different regulations. There was an inadequate supply of misting water sprays and high levels of dust at the construction sites. In addition, building supplies were not covered and were left exposed.
