As per reports, the orders have been issued under section 144 of CrPC for popular spots such as dams, forts, etc.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have been increasing significantly across Maharashtra, and keeping the spread in mind, officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation, on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, issued issued prohibitory orders for more 50 tourist spots in and around the district.

As per reports, the executive order was issued under the Section 144 of CrPC, by district collector Rajesh Deshmukh. These will be applicable at tourist locations in Ambegaon, Bjor, Haveli, Junnar, Maval, Mulshi, and Velha tehsils, which are known for sports like Lavasa, Panshet, dams like Bhushi, Temghar, and Khadakwasla; and forts like Lohagad, Torna, Sinhagad, Shivneri, etc.

Officials have informed that several tourists visit these spots during the vacations and the peak season. Considering the same, it is important to impose strict guidelines while controlling the footfall and managing the crowd. It has often been noted that the COVID guidelines imposed regarding the social distancing, wearing a mask, and other protocols are being flouted 

Cases in Pune and nearby areas have been increasing over the last few days. The district recorded a postivity rate of 16 per cent and on Tuesday, a total of over 3400 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Pune, with active case tally increasing to over 19,000. Till date, more than 9100 deaths have been reported in Pune, due to COVID infection. On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, the district reported m ore than 6100 COVID cases, taking the positivity rate to 21 percent. More than 12 lakh cases have been reported from Pune district so far.
