Pune faces inadequate supply of Railneer owing to Mumbai

At railway stations and in trains, official and authentic brand 'Railneer' water bottles are sold. However, there has been a shortage of Railneer in summer. Hence, it has come to a point where railways are being allowed to sell water bottles of other companies. There is a shortage in Pune as Mumbai is given priority in the supply of Railneer. As this problem arises every year in summer, there are plans to set up the Railneer project in Pune.

Railneer is supplied by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Railneer project is at Ambernath from where it is supplied to Mumbai Division, Pune Division and Solapur Division of Railways. This supply continues smoothly throughout the year except summer. The demand for Railneer suddenly increases in summer. Due to this, the supply from the project at Ambernath begins to decrease.

Every summer, the Ambernath project mainly fulfils the railway requirement of the Mumbai section. Due to this, the supply of Railneer to Pune and Solapur falls short. While the demand for Railneer has increased due to summer, the shortage is affecting the passengers. For this, Central Railway has now allowed the sale of water bottles of other companies. These include Oxymore Aqua, Rococo, Health Plus, Gallons, Nimbus, Oxy Blue, Sun Rich, Elvish, Ionita.

Demand for 12 thousand bottles per day at Pune station

There is currently a demand of 1000 boxes of Railneer per day at Pune station. A box contains 12 bottles. Therefore, an average of around 12 thousand bottles are sold at the station per day. Now only half of that demand is being fulfilled by Railneer.
