COVID-19 Vaccination: Rajesh Tope urges Centre to provide 3 crore doses monthly in Maharashtra

According to reports, about six crore beneficiaries have been administered COVID-19 vaccine doses in Maharashtra so far. Of them, around 1.6 crore residents have received both the doses.

On Thursday, September 2, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope urged the Centre to supply three crore vaccine doses a month for the state.

The minister made these statements during a virtual conference with Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

While talking to the media, Tope said that he has requested the Centre to grant more doses for Maharashtra. The Union minister has taken note of it. If the Centre grants enough doses, the state should be able to complete the vaccination of all adults in the state in the next two months, he added. 

Moreover, Tope stressed vaccinating as many people as possible before the festivities.

Considering the rise in the daily cases amid fear of the possible third wave, Tope said intensifying the vaccination drive was the main strategy in Maharashtra. In addition, Maharashtra was among the states with the highest number of active cases. 

Earlier, the state assembly had passed a resolution asking the Centre to provide a minimum of three crore doses per month to the state to increase vaccination.
