Youth in Maharashtra, aspiring to become policemen, can rejoice, as the state government's recent announcement could benefit them. Sharing the information, state Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh has informed that as many as 12,538 posts for the Police department will be filled at the earliest and the recruitment process for the same will begin soon.

Adding more, Deshmukh told the media on Monday, January 11, 2021, that the state government would fill the positions in a phase-wise manner, whereby the first will include 5,297 seats. Guidelines have been issued for the benefit of SEBC candidates. The following second phase of police recruitment will be started immediately thereafter.

He also said that even after filling all the posts, the department will consider additional 5,000 vacancies if necessary, and the decision for the same would be taken at a later stage.

Advertisements for the same were published by the concerned department in 2019, however, on September 9, 2020, the Supreme Court granted interim stay on the SEBC reservation and the police recruitment process was halted. A few days back, the state government had announced its decision to conduct the police recruitment process in the state without SEBC reservation, however, this decision is being strongly opposed by Maratha organizations and several leaders.

At present, the concerned department has decided not to reserve SEBC for the recruitment process in the state, and the age limit of the open category will be applied while determining the eligibility of the candidates who have applied from SEBC.
