On Sunday, February 6, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital and her remains were taken to Shivaji Park in Dadar for people to pay their homage. According to reports, she died because of multi-organ failure after over 28 days of hospitalisation post-COVID-19.

To pay tribute to India's Nightingale and veteran Bollywood singer Lata Mangeshkar, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday on Monday, February 7 to mourn her demise. An official statement from the CMO stated that a two-day "state mourning" will be observed on the demise of the legendary singer.

  • Bombay High Court and other subordinate courts under Bombay HC jurisdiction will have a holiday on Monday to mourn the demise.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) mentioned that there will be no transactions and settlements in government securities (primary and secondary), foreign exchange, money markets, and Rupee Interest Rate Derivatives. Therefore, settlement of all outstanding transactions will accordingly get postponed to Tuesday, February 8.
  • Bombay HC will be suspending all its judicial proceedings on Monday at all its benches. Moreover, subordinate courts in the state, South and North Goa, Dadara, Nagar Haveli and Diu, Daman and Silvassa shall also remain closed.
  • All BMC Offices, except emergency services, will remain closed on Monday.
  • BEST routes/buses will be operating according to Holiday Schedule.
