Resident doctors from all government-operated colleges in Maharashtra will partake in the nationwide agitation of medical students against the delay of the NEET PG counselling, stated reports. They have voiced their discontent of being overburdened since a mere two batches of pupils are presently working in medical colleges.

The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) have stated that they will not indulge in outpatient department (OPD) services from Monday, December 6. Nonetheless, they will not hinder emergency work and surgeries.

Based on accounts, hospital authorities in the island city accorded that they will operate the OPDs with the assistance of senior members of the faculty.

Whilst the NEET-PG for MS/MD admissions is usually conducted in January, however, owing to COVID-19, it was held in September. Similarly, the counselling procedure was supposed to begin on October 25, but petitions challenging the union government’s notification further hindered the process.

In Maharashtra, according to reports, final year students from the 2018 batch which were the senior resident doctors, were relieved on July 1. After which the medical institutions have been operating with only two batches in contrast to the usual three.

The doctors demand that the PG counselling procedure be fast-tracked since non-COVID-19 related work has surged along with the coronavirus duties. Mumbai doctors, on the other hand, are also agitating since notices were issued to vacate the accommodation given by the MHADA/BMC post the COVID-19 outbreak.
