Amid the surge of COVID-19 cases being reported in Maharashtra and Mumbai, cabinet minister, Aslam Shaikh was quoted in reports elaborating on how this phenomenon is a matter of concern. According to accounts, Shaikh believes that daily cases in Maharashtra are almost 500 after being under 150 in the past few weeks.

It has been reported that a considerable amount of these positive coronavirus cases are being reported from Mumbai. Shaikh elaborated on how during the previous wave, the first cases had begun rising in Mumbai. Therefore, he opines that everyone must remain alert.

Based on narratives, while daily hospitalizations had fallen to the single digit in the city, they have nearly doubled in the last three days. Shaikh added that if cases continue to increase, the state would reassess the condition to reinforce certain curbs that include the likes of compulsory wearing of masks in public places.

On Thursday, May 26, Mumbai registered over 300 new cases. The active cases in the city now stand at 1,658. While zero COVID-19 deaths were seen, the number of hospitalizations was 16.

In the last 24 hours, 511 people tested positive in the state, with this, the tally in Maharashtra is 78,84,329 and the toll has reached 1,47,858.

On the other hand, in accordance with the weekly coronavirus report submitted to the cabinet, weekly detections in Mumbai have risen by 53 per cent in the week ended May 25 in contrast to the earlier one week period.

Similarly, reports suggest that active cases in the state have risen by 2,175 with 1,531 which is 70 per cent being reported from Mumbai.
