On Wednesday, February 2, the Maharashtra cabinet ratified the state’s new wine policy, permitting the sale of wine in supermarkets and walk-in stores, stated reports. The said decision came in the aftermath of the criticism of the opposition along with a cautious statement by NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

According to accounts, Pawar has remarked that the government can reconsider the decision if there is public opposition. On the other hand, NCP Minister Nawab Malik told reporters that the wine policy decision taken in the Maharashtra cabinet meeting last week has been affirmed.

Previously on Wednesday, Pawar had urged the government that it should review its decision in the face of criticism from certain groups. Pawar was quoted by narratives elaborating on how there is no need the comprehend the difference between wine and hard liquor. This, he believes, is because if people are opposing the move, then the government must reconsider its decision.

However, Pawar, added that he will not oppose the government decision to reconsider its decision. On the other hand, the Maharashtra government justified its decision by remarking that the decision will bring greater remuneration to farmers since wine is made from produce.

Based on narratives, Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis mentioned that the BJP will continue to oppose the sale of wine in supermarkets and walk-in shops.
