On Wednesday, December 29, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) made seven-day home quarantine mandatory for all travellers taking a flight from the UAE that includes Dubai and coming to Mumbai, reports stated.

In a new circular released, the civic body stated that all international travellers arriving from the UAE and are residents of Mumbai will have to mandatory home quarantine for seven days.

These passengers will also have to undertake an RT-PCR test at the airport irrespective of them being fully vaccinated at arrival. Last week, the civic body had made one week of home quarantine compulsory for all travellers coming back from Dubai only. Moreover, fully vaccinated travellers weren't required to undertake an RT-PCR test on arrival at the airport.

According to accounts, the BMC elaborated on how 12 countries were on the list of "at-risk" nations but since Dubai was a travel hub, mixing of passengers occurs at the airport. Thus, the new rules were brought in force of the rising Omicron scare from travellers from Dubai.

Those who aren't residents of Mumbai can leave the airport but those living in the state will be sent by the Collector to their home city. They will not be permitted to take public transport.

On the other hand, those from other states will be permitted to take connecting flights but airport authorities will have to appraise the destination airport about the UAE arrival.

Based on narratives, the civic authority will residents of Mumbai coming from the UAE will be contacted by the Ward War Rooms for a week during home quarantine.
