Considering the growing population of Mumbai city, new fire stations will be established at seven more locations in Mumbai. Seven new centers including Kandivali, Kanjur Marg, Santacruz, Chembur and Andheri and two along Coastal Road will be constructed. Among them, the centers at Kandivali and Kanjurmarg have been completed.


Mumbai Fire Brigade once had a reputation that if a fire breaks out anywhere in Mumbai, fire brigade vehicles reach the spot within minutes. But due to the increase in population and number of vehicles in Mumbai, fire brigade vehicles often get stuck in traffic jams. Therefore, there was a need to increase the number of fire stations. Accordingly, from the last few years, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken the work of increasing the number of fire brigade stations.


New fire stations will be constructed at Thakur Village – Kandivali (East), LBS Marg – Kanjur Marg (W) under the capacity and facility empowerment program of the fire brigade. Among them, the work of the Kandivali center has been completed. The work at Kanjurmarg has been completed. Along with this, construction of new fire stations at Juhu Tara Road – Santacruz (W), Mahul Road – Chembur and Tilak Nagar will be taken up soon.

INR 160 crores have been allocated for various projects in the budget of the current financial year for the upgradation of fire brigade. INR 261 crores have been provided in the budget of 2025-26.


Along with this, fire stations will be set up at two places along the coastal road. 95 percent of the sea coast line from Marine Drive to Worli has been completed and this line has been started at full capacity recently. The BMC has decided to set up two fire stations along the coastal road to provide immediate emergency services in case of an accident on this road. The BMC officials informed that one center will be in Worli area and one center will be around Priyadarshini Udyan area.


As per the guidelines of Standing Fire Advisory Council

  • There should be one fire station behind every 10.36 sq km.
  • Mumbai has a total of 51 fire stations including 34 fire stations and 17 small fire stations of the fire brigade.
