Tata Memorial Hospital is the one and only institute specially dedicated to cancer patients in Mumbai.

Apart from city civic body’s Nair Hospital, that has only a single department offering chemotherapy for cancer, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not set up any cancer specialty hospital in Mumbai. Shiv Sena corporator Urmila Panchal has called upon the BMC and demanded a special hospital for the treatment of cancer patients in Mumbai and its suburbs.

Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Sion Hospital is a specialty institute for TB, while Kasturba Hospital and Wadala Hospital offer a specialised treatment for leprosy. Panchal stressed on the need of another cancer specialty hospital in the city due to the growing number of cancer patients and the lack of vacancy at Tata Memorial Hospital.
