The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to hand over the land of well-known Birla Krida Kendra to the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) for the construction of a multi-purpose jetty, is this movie is being opposed by the Shiv Sena.
No plays or events have taken place for a long time, but despite that, there is no permission to demolish the theatre. On Monday, the civic Improvements Committee rejected the proposal of construction of multi-purpose jetty on the land of Birla Krida Kendra.
The Kendra is situated in the area of 6,472 square meters and houses a drama theatre, multipurpose halls, and a restaurant which is set up in the area of 2791 square meter area. The government is planning to take over 2791 square meters of land and the proposal of the same had been sent for the approval of the reform committee.
During a standing committee meeting, when the proposal came for an approval, BJP’s Prakash Gangadhare said that the committee should approve the proposal. He added that this proposal is beneficial in terms of tourism, placements, and businesses. But Congress Javed Juneja opposed the move saying that the administration should not give away the cultural centre who was backed by Shiv Sena’s Ramakant Rahate adding that it is not a fair decision.
BJP is acting selfish as it is not paying attention to the needs of Koli community. In the name of renovation, they are literally ousting Koli community and now with the proposal of the jetty, they will leave no space for fishermen to anchor their boats. We want to know where will fishermen anchor their boats? Give us the information and then approve the proposal,” Milind Vaidya, Shiv Sena.
