Days after the Maharashtra government announced stricter curbs in the form of a shutdown to contain the virus spread, some of the shop keepers assembled outside the main administrative building of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to register their protest on Tuesday morning, April 6.

Earlier, the government also faced were sharp criticism and reactions from the trader’s community in the twin-city.

Shouting slogans against the civic administration and state government authorities, shopkeepers squatted on the main road in front of the main gate.

The spontaneous protest followed after the police and municipal authorities started enforcing the lockdown by asking shopkeepers to down the shutters of their establishments.

Some shopkeepers also agitated saying that policemen are forcing the closure of all establishments, even the essential shops, despite allowance from the state government.

On the other hand, many complained that there was no clarity in the guidelines issued, some staged protests demanding that the rules be revised.

Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, April 6, wrote a letter urging CM Thackeray to reconsider the lockdown-like restrictions to save the lives of commoners. This comes after hoteliers and traders' union protested against the fresh curbs.

He said that there was unrest among people and small businesses over the restrictions and the state government should speak to stakeholders again. In a letter to CM, the BJP leader said the state government should talk to small businesses and the general public and issue revised guidelines.
