After the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray imposed stricter restrictions in the state, Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, April 6, wrote a letter urging him to reconsider it to save the lives of commoners.

He said that there was unrest among people and small businesses over the COVID-19 curbs and the state government should speak to stakeholders again.

In a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the BJP leader said the state government should talk to small businesses and the general public and issue revised guidelines.

This comes amid the shopkeepers and hoteliers across the city protesting against the mini-lockdown imposed for a month.

It is important to check the pandemic, but at the same time, there shouldn’t be a time where a question gets raised about the livelihood of people, the leader of the opposition said.

Fadnavis also pointed out that during a phone call, they had spoken about two days of lockdown due to rising COVID-19 cases, however, there is unrest among the people due to lockdown like restrictions for five days and several people have started opposing them by getting on the street.

The former Chief Minister also stated that various sectors were not taken into consideration while imposing the restrictions. Furthermore, he stated that the MVA government, spearheaded by CM Thackeray, should give relief to small traders so that the poor are not affected.

On April 4, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra announced new guidelines under its 'Break the Chain' campaign to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state. Addressing the state, CM Thackeray said that he was 'not considering' the imposition of a complete lockdown, however, if the situation worsened, he would be 'compelled' to announce stricter restrictions.
