The Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture (MACCIA) has announced that all shops in the state, including Mumbai, will be open. However, despite the state government's order to close all shops except essentials, the traders will start their shops from Monday, April 12, 10 am to 5 pm.

However, other key bodies such as the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association (FRTWA) have opposed MACCIA’s move.

On Sunday, April 11, the Maharashtra government issued statewide restrictions shutting malls, multiplexes, markets and non-essential stores. A weekend lockdown too has been announced. These curbs have sparked protests from industry bodies and hoteliers who have sought the opening of establishments.

A section of traders in Maharashtra have been protesting and demanding the reopening of shops. Earlier, the trade association had warned to open all the shops from Friday. However, after the appeal of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the traders avoided opening their shops till Monday.

To break the chain of coronavirus, the state government has issued an order to close all types of shops except essentials till April 30. The association has also appealed to the district administration to co-operate with traders all over the state as it will start its trade by strictly adhering to all the COVID-19 norms like social distancing. Customers will not be allowed to enter the shops without masks.
